SPCA

Hey Everyone, this is another Summer Learning Journey activity. For this activity, I had to choose a charity and write a summary of it. I choose the SPCA. Enjoy!

Did you know SPCA stands for Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals?
I choose the SPCA because I am a big fan of animals! I also wish to work at the SPCA when I am older!

The SPCA helps protect over 40,000 animals in New Zealand every year. Animals who are sick, injured, abused or abandoned. They look after all sorts of animals such as cats, dogs, rabbits, and much more.

In Christchurch, they have lots of animals up for adoption, 1 miniature horse, 2 dogs, lots of kittens, 1 pig, 3 rabbits and 2 cats.

Do you do Summer Learning Journey?
If you do, what charity have you chosen?
I hope you enjoyed and learnt something new!
Bye!

  2. Kia Ora Gaia, this is Shannon from the Summer Learning Journey,

What an informative and enlightening post about the SPCA. You’ve done a stellar job and collected a lot of research. I like how you have given a lot of facts and explained really thoroughly what they do and who for.

You’ve included a lot of great pictures as well. They really enhance your post marvellously and I’m impressed with all of your hard work.

What is your favourite animal? Can you tell me any cool facts about it?

    Hei konā mai,

    1. Hi Shannon, My favourite animal is a grizzly bear, I also like snow leopards too. Sorry I don't really know any interesting facts. What is your favourite animal?

    2. Hi Gaia,

Grizzly bears are so cool! Did you know they eat up to 25 fish a day when they’re trying to prepare for hibernation? How cool is that!

My favourite animals are probably elephants. I just think they’re so cool. Did you know they have a very specific sound they make when a bee is nearby to warn their friends to be careful. Plus I like how they can use their trunk for so many different things; to lift super ever objects or even to paint a picture.

Have you ever seen any snow leopards or grizzly bears at any wildlife sanctuaries?

      Bye for now,
      Shannon

    3. Hi Shannon, No I haven't seen snow leopards or grizzly bears at any wildlife sanctuaries yet but I wish too maybe next year. I think elephants are cool too! I think that elephants are cool because they are very wise. Did you that elephants they will remember you in 10 years time.

    4. Kia Ora Gaia,

No I didn’t know that elephants had such a good memory! They sure beat goldfish who can’t remember anything. Have you been to any zoos or wildlife sanctuaries? If so what animals did you see? I used to live in Australia and I went to the Currumbin WIldlife Sanctuary. I got to see crocodiles and even help a snake! They’re not as slimy as you’d think they would be. More rough and scaly.

      Happy Holidays!
      - Shannon
